Beyond New Normal
Live Multimedia Performance
Beyond New Normal is an innovative multimedia performance that weaves together costume design, amplified sewing, musical soundscapes, and visuals crafted by German artists Klaus Erika Dietl and Stephanie Müller. These elements intertwine with compelling dance movements and object manipulation by Anas Abunahleh of Studio 8, creating a unique sensory experience.
The project is the result of three years of continuous digital and physical collaboration, including exchanges via email, WhatsApp, a shared Facebook group, and joint blogging. Throughout this period, the co-production has evolved through multiple experimental phases, presenting its developing outcomes both online and offline in 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Artistic Approach
Rooted in long-term cross-disciplinary dialogue, the performance explores the relationship between materiality and sound through the innovative use of amplified sewing techniques. The artists blur the boundaries between costume and instrument, movement and texture, crafting a living system where sound and gesture are deeply intertwined. The work challenges conventional performance forms by integrating tactile craft with digital media and embodied expression, resulting in a dynamic and evolving artistic encounter.
